Description

➢ Chronology: On Wednesday, 8 April 2026, at 23:17:45 WIB, a tectonic earthquake struck Lembata and surrounding areas. According to analysis by BMKG, the earthquake had a magnitude of 4.7. The epicentre was located at coordinates 8.36° S and 123.15° E, approximately 21 km southeast of Larantuka, at a depth of 5 km.



Considering the epicentre location and hypocentre depth, the earthquake was classified as a shallow earthquake caused by activity along an active fault. Based on community reports, the earthquake was felt in Lembata at an intensity of III on the MMI scale (vibrations clearly felt by several people, similar to a passing truck). As of now, there have been no reports of damage to buildings resulting from the earthquake.
